After years of listening to our members discuss their various “Bucket List” fishing trips, we launched a program allowing HomeWaters members to create lifelong memories together while exploring the world or other fisheries.
FUTURE TRIPS
HomeWaters has four trips for members on its 2026-27 calendar.
NOVEMBER 2026
Bay Flats Lodge, Texas
Sight fish the shallow saltwater flats of San Antonio Bay and surrounding area for redfish in November. This area provides excellent opportunities to catch numbers of redfish most in the 18–22-inch range with a few larger ones thrown in to add to the fun. Since this is an easy trip for traveling logistics, we’ve decided on a 4 night / 3 day trip.
The original trip was announced for the 6th-10th which sold out immediately. So, we added another set of dates and still have availability for up to 6 anglers as of January 1, 2026.
There are both single occupancy and shared occupancy openings available. The rate for single occupancy space / shared skiff for the 4 night / 3 days fishing is $3,530.18, the double occupancy space / shared skiff rate is $2,875.64.
DECEMBER 2026
Jardines De La Reina
We’re going back to the JDR. We’ll be on a bigger boat this time. There is room for 16 total anglers including the host. The JAF3 has 15 guest rooms so all slots are single occupancy except one.
Cuba recently reduced the number of skiffs they allow to fish the JDR archipelago at one time to just eight. This is down from a max of 24 in the past. So, the fish will be even less pressured. We can’t guarantee we’ll have six sunny days with very little wind like our first trip, but the weather should be very similar to what it was when we were there in March of 2024. There should be similar numbers of resident tarpon as the first trip (we jumped 260+) and lots of bonefish including some big ones. Additionally, there is a better chance of catching a permit in the JDR in December compared to March.
The cost for the trip is $10,960 single occupancy/shared skiff.

PAST TRIPS
Owen River Lodge, New Zealand (2026)
Many anglers consider New Zealand to be the Mecca of brown trout fishing. The Club hosted a trip to the lodge in 2019. The trip received very high marks for the quality of the lodging, food, guides, and of course the fishing. Because of these facts, we’ve decided to make a return trip to Owen River Lodge in 2026. The lodge sits on the northwest side of New Zealand’s South Island.
It’s considered one of New Zealand’s best fishing lodges. It provides drivable access to many rivers in the region and also offers helicopter fly outs for anglers interested in exploring remote locations. Travel to and from New Zealand is easy but requires a long flight. However, for those that have the time, it is a great location to stay an extra week or so to see some of the sights the island nation has to offer.
Playa Blanca (2020 - Present)
This has become an annual destination of our travel program. And why wouldn’t it be. Afterall, Playa Blanca offers what may be the best Permit fishing in the Caribbean basin. You would be hard pressed to find another location that produces the numbers and quality of permit year in and year out. And not only do anglers have a great chance at landing a permit, the fishing for resident and juvenile tarpon, snook and bonefish is also very good.
Next year’s trip will mark the 7th year running that we have hosted groups to Playa Blanca. The trip has become so popular that we typically only have openings for two or three anglers a year. If you are interested in joining us some year, see Justin or Mike and have them put you on the wait list.
Pira Lodge, Argentina (2025)
Located in Argentina's northern province of Corrientes, Pira Lodge enjoys a tropical “Floridian” climate and is repeatedly labeled one of the world’s top guest accommodations by returning anglers. Pira affords you crystal clear waters, ideal for sight-fishing for cruising dorado with floating lines and topwater flies. Pira Lodge strategically places anglers in a habitat-rich bottleneck where the marsh and Corriente River ecosystems converge. Here, Dorado is king.
Rapids Camp, King Salmon, Alaska (2024)
Rapids Camp Lodge is a full service fly-out lodge situated on the Naknek River in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska 15 minutes outside of King Salmon, Alaska. The lodge has 10 single occupancy rooms and is able to accommodate 10 anglers two-on-one guided.
Guests can fish the famous Naknek, or fly out to a remote stream or lake daily to fish for sockeye, pink or humpy salmon in addition to rainbows, grayling, char, dolly varden and even pike. The lodge maintains four planes for daily fly-outs that can reach up to a 100 mile radius from the lodge.
Jardines De la Reina, Cuba (2024)
Many anglers have had Cuba on their bucket list for years.
Thanks to Avalon Outdoors a group of HomeWaters Members will get to check this destination off of their list in 2024. Jardines Avalon F II is a 130 foot vessel with 10 deluxe comfortable state rooms and can accommodate up to 12 anglers for a week.
The JAF2 will ply the waters and flats of the Jardines de la Reina area off the southwest coast of Cuba. This region is known for excellent tarpon and bonefishing, but permit and snook are possible in addition to many other species.
Estancia De Los Rios, Chile (2023)
Estancia De Los Rios is a 360,000-acre Estancia...that’s correct, not a typo…360,000 acres, located in Patagonia, Chile. There are more than 60 miles of rivers and spring creeks inside the Estancia. The fishing is entirely for wild brown trout on the Estancia’s rivers, streams, and lakes (the largest variety of waters in Patagonia). While there are not a lot of big fish, you will enjoy dry fly fishing all day without seeing a soul!
PAST TRIPS
In March 2014 HomeWaters sponsored its first hosted trip to a permit and tarpon lodge in southern Belize, returning annually the next four years. We began expanding the program with trips to Crooked Island (bonefish and permit) in November 2017.
In February 2018 we headed to Argentina for trout, then New Zealand in 2019. We did two trips in 2020 before COVID hit one to the South Holston River in Tennessee and our inaugural trip to Playa Blanca Lodge in Mexico. Playa Blanca was such a hit we’ve returned in 2021, 2022 and are returning for our 4th annual visit in 2023.
CREATING MEMORIES
In addition to great fishing experiences, these trips have promoted camaraderie and created friendships amongst members. We plan to continue to provide members the opportunity to travel to great fly fishing destinations around the world, hosted by HomeWaters staff.
