Belize Destination Trip

DESTINATION TRIPS

After years of listening to our members discuss their various “Bucket List” fishing trips, we launched a program allowing HomeWaters members to create lifelong memories together while exploring the world or other fisheries.

FUTURE TRIPS

HomeWaters has four trips for members on its 2026-27 calendar.

NOVEMBER 2026
Bay Flats Lodge, Texas
Bay Flats Lodge is in Seadrift, Texas. It has an excellent reputation for sight fishing for redfish in the shallow flats in and around San Antonio sound. Seadrift sits between Corpus Christi and Houston on the mainland side of the sound.
DECEMBER 2026
Jardines De La Reina
So good the first time we’re going back again. The main target will be resident tarpon in the 10–40-pound class, but don’t overlook the bonefishing which is known to be excellent….and they say there tend to be a few more permit around in December compared to March.
JANUARY 2027
Playa Blanca, Mexico
October 23-30, 2027
Agua Boa, Brazil

PAST TRIPS

Playa Blanca (2020 - 2027)

Playa Blanca Lodge is located on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, just a 45-minute flight south of Cancun, in the middle of the environmentally protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere. It sits on the southern end of Punta Pajaros Island and offers the best access to Espiritu Santo Bay. The bay is known as Mexico’s last flats-fishing frontier. Espiritu Santo Bay is only fished by two lodges; Playa Blanca being one of them.

The area is known for its excellent fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook with plentiful numbers of all four species.  It is one of the best (if not the best) destinations in the world for an angler to achieve the Super Grand Slam.

Pira Lodge, Argentina (2025)

Located in Argentina's northern province of Corrientes, Pira Lodge enjoys a tropical “Floridian” climate and is repeatedly labeled one of the world’s top guest accommodations by returning anglers. Pira affords you crystal clear waters, ideal for sight-fishing for cruising dorado with floating lines and topwater flies. Pira Lodge strategically places anglers in a habitat-rich bottleneck where the marsh and Corriente River ecosystems converge. Here, Dorado is king.

Rapids Camp, King Salmon, Alaska (2024)

After many conversations about the best locations, times of year, species to target and lodge to stay in, we settled on Rapids Camp Lodge which sits on the bank of the Naknek River just outside of King Salmon. Rapids Camp offers guests the opportunity to fly out daily to fish the many lakes, rivers and streams within a 100-mile radius in Alaska’s Bristol Bay region.

Late June-early July offers the best chance at King Salmon, late July offers great all-round fishing and three species of salmon, August is silver salmon month and September is the best time for big rainbows after they’ve gorged themselves on eggs for a couple months.

There will be three species of salmon in the streams Sockeye, Pink and Chum. Rainbows are always there but can be caught on streamers and mice this time of year. Plus, you can add char, grayling, dolly varden and pike to your species list if you want..

Jardines De la Reina, Cuba (2024)

The main target will be resident tarpon in the 10–40-pound class, but don’t overlook the bonefishing which is known to be excellent….and they say there tend to be a few more permit around in December compared to March.

Cuba and Avalon have changed a few things about the fishing program in the JDR that should make the fishing even better. Previously they allowed as many as 21 skiffs per day to fish the JDR. The JDR is a series of uninhabited islands covering an area similar to the size to the Florida Keys. The limit now is just 8 skiffs. In December of next year, we’ll have all 8 skiffs and the entire JDR region for just our group to fish.

Estancia De Los Rios, Chile (2023)

Estancia De Los Rios is a 360,000-acre Estancia...that’s correct, not a typo…360,000 acres, located in Patagonia, Chile. There are more than 60 miles of rivers and spring creeks inside the Estancia.  The fishing is entirely for wild brown trout on the Estancia’s rivers, streams, and lakes (the largest variety of waters in Patagonia). While there are not a lot of big fish, you will enjoy dry fly fishing all day without seeing a soul!

PAST TRIPS

In March 2014 HomeWaters sponsored its first hosted trip to a permit and tarpon lodge in southern Belize, returning annually the next four years. We began expanding the program with trips to Crooked Island (bonefish and permit) in November 2017.

In February 2018 we headed to Argentina for trout, then New Zealand in 2019. We did two trips in 2020 before COVID hit one to the South Holston River in Tennessee and our inaugural trip to Playa Blanca Lodge in Mexico. Playa Blanca was such a hit we’ve returned in 2021, 2022 and are returning for our 4th annual visit in 2023.

CREATING MEMORIES

In addition to great fishing experiences, these trips have promoted camaraderie and created friendships amongst members. We plan to continue to provide members the opportunity to travel to great fly fishing destinations around the world, hosted by HomeWaters staff.
