FISHING REPORTS
July 14, 2026
At times Mother Nature brings weather from one extreme to the next, and that was definitely the case last week compared to previous weeks so far this summer. We went from very warm temperatures and almost no rain for weeks on end, and then all of a sudden, we had a solid week of slightly cooler temperatures with quite a bit of rain in the form of thunderstorms and quick passing showers.
We received enough rain off and on last week that all our creeks and rivers received the largest reset in water conditions we've had in quite some time. Water levels rose quickly with the rain being hard enough that the water was pretty dirty during a good portion of last week. Over the last several days the rain has let off as we started this week with water conditions settled and are currently sitting in great shape for summer fishing. Water levels are a little higher than average for this time of year and hold a greenish color in the deeper areas.
This week's forecast looks to be without much rain and calling for another batch of warmer temperatures into the upper 80's and 90's, which is not out of the ordinary for the summer months around here. By the weekend cooler weather is to return with daily high temperatures dropping back into the upper 70's and low 80's through next week. With the cooler weather, the chance of some lighter showers over the weekend and during next week returns.
At this time of the year we expect trout fishing to be better in the morning hours of the day making shorter days that focus on these more productive hours the best opportunities to fish. With the water conditions in nice shape and cooler weather bringing additional rain in the upcoming 10-day forecast, the near future looks to be favorable for summer trout fishing. Anglers can expect to catch fish on a variety of methods this time of year ranging from Dries to Dry Droppers, and like just about any day throughout the year, nymphing. Ants and Terrestrials are always a good bug to fish this time of year, and anglers should also be on the lookout for Paraleps and Tricos on the water in the mornings.
The thunderstorms last week forced us to take a week off the smallmouth bass fishing while the river required a few days to settle down from the dramatic rise in flows. After a dry start to the summer leading to lower than average water levels on the Juniata River, it was beneficial moving forward to see a nice reset in water conditions last week. Last week's rain set us up with very favorable water conditions for the rest of July for smallmouth bass float trips that will give us the ability to float the entire Juniata River system. The warm days of summer often produce some of the best topwater fishing of the year. We expect the fishing to be very good this week and moving forward. In addition to good fishing on the surface with poppers, the subsurface bite should also be productive with crayfish and minnow on the menu.
If you're itching for a morning trout fishing or a day of floating the river for smallmouth bass conditions in the upcoming weeks are shaping up nicely. We look forward to fishing with you!
