FISHING REPORTS
October 8, 2025
October started with warmer weather throughout the day as the afternoon temperatures rose into the low 80's most days; however, overnight temperatures were in the low 50's. Dry weather and a lot of sun made for a beautiful week to be outside. We usually tend to see peak fall foliage around the 3rd week of October, but it may come earlier this year as quite a few leaves have turned and are starting to drop already.
The effects of the roughly 3 inches of rain we received two weeks ago have unfortunately worn off, water conditions are currently back to levels that are lower than average for this time of year. Spruce Creek, Penns Creek, Yellow Creek, and the Little J are all very clear.
The upcoming 10 day forecast is calling for a big shift to more fall-like conditions we prefer to see from a fishing standpoint for this time of year. There is a good chance of a half an inch or more of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday with much cooler weather with daytime high temperatures dropping back to the mid 60's. Over the next week daytime high temperatures will stay in the high 50's to low 60's with overnight temperatures in the 40's to low 50's.There is also a chance for more rain over next weekend, Sunday into Monday.
Smaller nymphs, 5x fluorocarbon, and lightly-weighted rigs under yarn indicators have been a staple for consistently catching fish this fall in lower water. Egg patterns have been working as there are a few fish spawning in the system, otherwise Soft Hackles, Midges, Caddis Pupa, and size 16-18 natural toned nymphs have been catching the most fish. Some fish have been caught with dry flies sipping Paraleps, Caddis, and Ants, especially during the late morning hours of the day in shaded sections of the creeks.
Cloudier, cooler weather with chances of rain should help the fishing. This is certainly one of the more favorable forecasts we've had in a few months other than two weeks ago when we also received some rain and cooler weather which fished well. Despite having tougher water conditions for a lot of this fall, the fishing has held up well, and it looks like this should be a good week of early October fishing here at HomeWaters.
