FISHING REPORTS

May 27, 2026

After a dry April and start of May left us with low and clear water conditions similar to what we fish during the summer months, we had been hoping Mother Nature would deliver us a batch of significant rain. A major shift in the weather took us from very warm air temperatures in the low 90's during the middle of last week to much cooler air temperatures in the mid 50's and 60's over the weekend. With that change we received light to moderate rain off and on from Thursday of last week through Monday morning of this week totaling around 2 inches of combined rain.

That rain was exactly what we needed and provided a total reset in water conditions that remained high and dirty to start the week off. Flows will continue to drop throughout the week leaving water conditions that are about perfect for fishing by the end of this week and over the weekend. After seeing low and clear water for the beginning of May, it will be great to end the month with higher flows and water with some color. This rain also shapes a positive outlook for water conditions being favorable as we approach the beginning of June.

Weather on tap for this week looks favorable for fishing and very comfortable for anglers with daytime high temperatures in the mid to upper 70's and nighttime temperatures staying in the 50's. The weekend is forecast to be slightly cooler with nighttime temperatures dropping into the upper 40's and day time temperatures staying in the upper 60-degree range. By the start of next week daytime high temperatures are to return to the mid to upper 70-degree range. Anglers can expect sunny or partly cloudy skies as there is currently not a chance for much precipitation in the upcoming 10 days.

Overall, this spring has been a good year for hatches with Grannoms, then Sulphurs, and over the last week there was no shortage of good dry fly action on the Little J and Spruce Creek with Green Drakes. Anglers can expect to continue to see some Sulphurs around and in recent weeks there has also been good dry fly fishing with smaller bugs such as BWO's and Caddis. The end of May and June also usually continue to offer favorable opportunities to fish attractor-style searching patterns such as Chubby's, Stimulators, or Parachutes fished by themselves as well as on Dry Dropper Rigs.

With water conditions being higher and off color the nymphing will be the star of the show for the upcoming week. Attractor-style nymphs such as Worms, Wooly Buggers, Stoneflies, and other flashy, bright colors will lead to the most success through this week. As the water continues to drop, smaller patterns such as Soft Hackles, Caddis Pupa, Baetis Nymphs, and many other size 16-18 natural patterns and attractor nymphs will put fish in the net. Streamers have also been in play this week and typically work well to target some of the larger fish when we have these higher water conditions.

After a return of more seasonable weather and a very nice reset in water conditions, it is shaping up to be a great end of May and beginning of June. Come fish!
