FISHING REPORTS

MAY 1, 2024

Last week was another good week of Spring fishing here at HomeWaters as we wrap up the end of April and get the month of May started. Recent anglers on the water have taken advantage of the variety of different Spring fishing options we offer ranging from wade trips on Spruce, Penns, and Yellow Creek to float trips for both wild trout and prespawn smallmouth bass.

The last half of April brought less rain than the beginning of the month and as a result water levels are slightly lower than average and pretty clear. After what has been an early Spring filled with high water it’s been nice to fish near average conditions, especially for anglers looking to fish dry flies.

We have experienced a large swing in temperatures as cold nights down into the lower 30's with frost toward the end of last week quickly switched to day time high temperatures in the 80's for the start of this week. The current forecast for this week is for day time temperatures to stay warmer and remain in the low 80's through Friday. Night time temperatures are supposed to drop into the 50's. Look for showers on Saturday and Sunday and cooler weather in the 60's and 70's to start next week.

We’ve seen Sulphurs starting to hatch and are finding a few fish with them on the surface although the warmer temperatures and high sun this week has created tough conditions for fishing hatches. There should be a lot of good Sulphur fishing in the upcoming weeks, and anglers on the water recently are also seeing a mixture of Caddis, Grey Foxes, Blue Winged Olives, and Midges.
