HomeWaters Fly Fishing: 2021 Spring Prespawn Bass Floats

HomeWaters Fly Fishing: 2021 Spring Prespawn Bass Floats

2021 Spring Prespawn Bass Floats

Dates: Friday, April 23rd – Saturday, May 8th

Every spring as water temperatures rise into the 50 degree range, the smallmouth bass in our creeks and rivers come to life after a long winter. The spring offers anglers an excellent window of fishing opportunity before our smallmouth spawn and reproduce near the end of May.

As many of you that fish with Andy and I already know, floating in the spring to catch prespawn smallmouth bass is a window of opportunity we look forward to each year. We are excited to extend this fishing experience to club members starting this spring from Friday, April 23rd to Saturday, May 8th.

These spring float trips take place in the same Juniata Watershed that many of you have come to love. However, spring water conditions allow us to fish some sections of creeks and river that are inaccessible during the summer.

The major difference between the summer and our prespawn bass fishing program in the spring is a primary subsurface focus. This is a time of year to target mature, trophy smallmouth bass on streamers, crayfish, and spinning gear. While we still expect to put good numbers of fish in the boat, most days are much more about size.

The gear, flies, and lunches will all be provided by the guides just as they are during our summer float trips. Andy or Kyle will contact you a few days prior to your trip. The logistics and meeting locations are also very similar to the summer. These prime spring dates allow us to offer floats that include one boat with two anglers or two boats for four anglers (upon availability).

As a club, we want to provide members the opportunity to experience everything within Pennsylvania’s year-round fisheries. Prespawn bass fishing in the spring is the next piece of the puzzle we are able to offer. Give a call to the fly shop to get your 2021 prespawn bass float trip booked on the schedule, don’t miss out!
